Trail Description

The John Muir Trail is a long-distance trail in the Sierra Nevada mountain range of California. For 160 miles (260 km) the trail follows the exact same footpath as the Pacific Crest Trail.

The John Muir Trail is so popular because it passes through what people describe as the finest mountain scenery of the Unites States. With mountain tops over 13,000 feet (4,000 meter), you can’t help but feeling small in this overwhelming landscape. The countless lakes, canyons and high mountain scenery you will see while hiking the John Muir Trail are just a few examples why this route has become America’s most famous trail.

Although the trail is known for its relative solitude, every year 1,500 thru-hikers attempt to walk the John Muir Trail in one go. The fact that the trail runs through a region with a mild and sunny climate attracts people from over the world.
